First established in 1924, William Ptak opened his own custom tailoring and alteration store in 1925 at 8 Pittsburgh Street in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Apart from making alterations to customers’ personal clothing, he also made suits, vests, pants, and topcoats—all to order. A Polish immigrant, William had learned his trade in his native country.
William’s son, John Ptak Sr., began working in the shop shortly after World War II. In 1970, John Ptak Jr. followed in the footsteps of his grandfather and father and joined the family business.
As Ptak’s grew beyond its roots as a tailor’s shop, the store moved to a number of locations on Main Street, Penn Street, and Peter Street. We now occupy a state-of-the-art distribution center at 21 West Main Street, from which we have served the Tri-State area for 31 years.
Today, John Jr. continues to own and operate the business together with his wife, Bernadette. For your next formal event, we welcome you to visit Ptak’s, where fashionable and affordable menswear is a tradition nearly a century strong.
